The Rise of Spring

Today’s Blog is both in English and Japanese. Japanese comes after English.

The spring has sprung!

The 3rd of February is important for us Japanese.
The day is called Risshun, meaning the rise of spring.

From this day, the season changes from winter to spring.

We also have fun ceremonies and rituals.

MameMaki

MameMaki is a ritual of throwing dry beans.  
Not to each other, but to devils and welcoming good will and gods.
We must cry

“OniWa Soto! (Devils out!). FukuWa Uchi ! (Luck in!)”.

One of the best rituals I love.

Special House Decoration

e the house with heads of small dry mackerels and green Christmas leaves.

Of course for purification.
