If and when you visit Nara, come up to the oldest shrine in Japan. Its name is Miwa Shrine, or, OhMiwa Jinja.

Look at this beautiful doll made of wood.

The style of art is called « KimeKomi » .

Kime means the wood grain, and Komi means pushing the fabric in the cracks of the shapes with small cutting knives.
There are many schools of making KimeKomi dolls. This very doll is made by a friend of my late mother.

I also want you to notice the mask the doll wears. It changes the facial expression, according to the angle of the watcher.

The mask is of the Japanese traditional Noh (a style of the theatre).

If and when you come to Japan, do visit the Noh Theatre.

Now every corner of the earth has welcomed the year 2020. 

Let’s see my table setting for the new year dinner.

A grilled big sea brim is there for bringing happiness. The golden things on the red plates are my homemade mashed sweet potatoes with sweet chestnuts, for, as you might have guessed, richness.

And all the other dishes represent happiness, richness, prosperity, health, and longevity.

I love Japanese food.  They represent our philosophy of life.

Now, the year 2020!

The great dawn of the new decade. It is going to be the age of the theatre. Not just as an audience, but also as an actor or director. Even though 5G will arrive, AI replaces human works, and virtual reality is at hand, human beings will never stop loving « do it yourself ».

Especially in the entertainment world, theatre is going to be really powerful. People will be fed up with sitting down on the sofa just watching the flood of movies.

Just like any sports, do it yourself is a really fun part. I hope more and more people start playing theatrical arts. Maybe in your country, acting and directing theatre is popular.  But not so much in Japan. If you are a theatre lover, please tell the fun (and usefulness) of theatre to your Japanese friends!
