Professional Acting: Animal Exercise

I am translating for a great movement teacher from UK.

He is teaching animal exercise for young drama students.

In Shakespeare, many characters are referred to some animal.

It does not mean he or she has a beak or claws or walk on all fours, doesn’t it?

The character has some touch of an animal-likeness.

By studying the movement of animals, you will be able to extract the essence of the animals to let live in your own character.

For instance, Jessica, the daughter of Shylock says about his servant Launcelot thus.

“Our house is hell, and thou, a merry devil,”

But how do you make Launcelot like a devil?

And make the devil merry?

When Jessica says he is a merry devil, every single member of the audience must agree indeed he is.

Then what will you do?

Imagine how a devil stand, walk, laugh.

You definitely need your imagination.

And it is supported by your work on animal movement.

++ Live Interaction of the Day ++

What animal do you imagine for your friends?

Look at my Romeo. We can learn so many things even from this one photo.
