Pray for the victims of Hiroshima.

I am in the ground zero of Hiroshima.

Yesterday,

I visited the origin of river Ota which has made this fruitful beautiful area.

Before I came into the ground zero of the first atomic bomb, I was afraid to be struck with millions of the lost souls would roar with rage and sorrow.

But when I entered, I knew the river Ota has purified me with blessings.

Somehow, some purification enchants the area.

今朝の平和記念式典に参列するために、昨夜、生まれて初めて広島市内に入りました。

昨日は、広島を作った第一級河川、太田川の源流を探す旅をしました。

そこで、とても良い美しい気を沢山頂き、澄んだ気持ちで市内に迎え入れられたようでホッとしています。

お付き合いくださった皆様に心から感謝しています。

6th and 9th of August is coming near, and our memory of Atomic Bombs experiences.

Yesterday, I went to see a reading show of letters from young children and their mothers who suffered heavily from the Atomic Bombs.

People of Hiroshima and Nagasaki lost their identity then, in a flash.

Do you know me?

I think it is the most fundamental question as a human being.

In Merchant of Venice, Lancelot Gobbet a comic character met his lost father who is now blind after a long separation. Lancelot asks.

”Do you know me, father?”

Father answers.

”Alack, sir, I am sand-blind, I know you not.”

What a sad answer. It appears in the middle of a comic act. It is very hard to direct the scene.

広島の日が近づいて来ました。

昨日は世田谷パブリックシアターにて『この子たちの夏』という朗読劇を観劇。

広島と長崎で被爆した子供達と母親の手記を朗読するものです。

大勢の人が、自分が誰なのか、相手が誰なのか、わからなくなりました。

外見だけではなく、人間としてのアイデンティティが失われてしまったのです。

「私がわかりますか？」

これは人間の根本の問いかけでしょう。

『ヴェニスの商人』２幕２場で、しばらく父親から離れていた息子が、瞽いた父親に再会して震えながら尋ねる言葉があります。

”Do you know me, father?”

「俺がわかるかい、父ちゃん？」

父親は答えます。

”Alack, sir, I am sand-blind, I know you not.”

「情けないことに旦那、わたしゃまるっきりの瞽になってしもうて、お前さんがわからない」

なんと悲しい答えでしょう。

コミックな場面に突然挟まれるこの感動的な対話は、演出もとても難しいものです。

Know は、学校で習う意味は「知る」ですが、実際は「わかる」「わかっている」で使う方が多いことに、イギリスで暮らしていて実感しました。
