成田空港を出発したのが2020年2月18日。疫病が武漢から中国全土に広がっていて、中国便がほぼ欠航になったりしていた時期です。
It was 18th February 2020. I left Narita Airport to Irkutsk, by Syberian Airlines. It was the time when the world had not yet really believed the pandemic was starting.
がら空きの成田空港から、モリアオガエル色のシベリア航空に乗ってウラジオストクへ。そこから乗り換えてイルクーツクまで行きます。
Yet, the airport was this empty in the middle of the day.
13時半に成田空港に集合。ワールド航空サービスで19名の参加者と添乗員1名との旅です。空港へは12時半に着いたので、お寿司を食べました。
I was on the tour of 19 people who were curious enough to go to the frozen Baikal.
とにかくガラガラなのでのんびりです。のんびりしすぎて、待ち合わせの場所がわからず、1時35分まで添乗員さんを待たせてしまいました、ごめんなさい。
Everything was just empty; very scarce. I had Sushi before departure.
空港は至るところ、なんだかビニールで全体にカバーがかけてあったり、オリンピック前の工事でもなさそうで、ウィルスが侵入した可能性のある経路を消毒中なのかなあ、なんて考えながら、税関を抜けます。
There were covered areas everywhere. In Japan, we were (are) expecting Tokyo Olympic in June and many constructions were (are) going on. I didn’t think those covered areas were for the Olympic preparation. Well, in that case, it must have been related to COVID-19.
出発は15時半なので、それまで免税店で化粧品を買います。
Departure is 1530. I went to buy some cosmetics I had been planning for more than 5 months.
半年くらい前から買い足さなくちゃと思っていたものを、「免税店で買うんだもんね」と我慢していたもの。免税店も暇なのでしょう、90分ほどたっぷりいろいろお試しさせてくれて説明してくれて相談しながら納得して書いました。MACの綺麗なアイシャドウのお姉さん、ありがとう。

売り子を褒める。
Make friends with the sales person.
もちろんこちらは買い手。
そして良いお店なら買わないお客にも丁寧に、というのは教育してる。でも、それでも、売り子さんを一人の女性として、そのお化粧を褒めて会話を弾ませると、相手はこちらを一人の女性として認識してくれます。そうすると、楽しい時間になるのだな。
Good corporate companies educate salespeople to treat the customers as polite as possible. But if you want to get better service, it is really up to you; not the salesperson. Just give a nice word with a shiny smile. Then s/he will return nicer action with a shinier smile, which makes your life more beautiful and satisfying.
