When To Train Your Voice and Body: Meal Timing

When do you eat?

Training, singing practice, and meal time.

Actors, singers, and dancers are all taking specific care for meal timing between their performance (training included).

General advice for the best eating habits do not apply for each professional performers.

Some eat big cake 5 minutes before the performance.
Other eat red meat a day before the performance.
And some others do not eat 2hours before performance.
And so on, and on, and on.

It’s a problem of digesting meal.
For, vocal work and movement work really involve stomach.

If the stomach is too full, not many performers can give the best result.

Especially for the daily training both vocal and physical, one cannot be too careful to choose the right time for the meal.

For me, important thing is to chew slowly and many times.
Doing so, the food can be digested in the stomach smoothly and easily, and you can start working your voice and body probably in just 15 minutes after the meal.

Also, by chewing slowly and many times, your appetite is quickly satisfied and you don’t want to eat big.

If you are worried of not getting enough calorie and nutrient, take eggs, milk, milk products, tomato, broccoli, and seaweed.

I don’t take too much meat, for it takes too much effort to digest.

Well, this is what I do, and not being consulted by medical doctors.
Taking meals and nutrition is awfully dependent on each person.
(A wonderful ballet dancer I know only lives with chocolate and cigarette!)

But there is absolutely no harm in chewing slowly and many times.
So, try it!
And work and train your voice and body anytime you like.
