In Shakespeare, many characters refer “twenty” when they try to show many numbers.

I was reading Advancement of Learning by Francis Bacon, and suddenly it occurred to me that perhaps Shakespeare was playing with the sound of word, “plenty” as “twenty”.

Antonio the merchant of avenice says,

“I have sent twenty out to seek you,”

Meaning, he has sent many friends to week a person out.

++ Live Interaction of the Day ++
